By the final season Wilson wasn't recognizable as a PERSON, in that his behaviour was literally not believable for a human being. So I'd agree that DS didn't give much thought to him.
Wilson is the last character I'd want to be, except House himself and Thirteen only because of her illness. And who wouldn't want to be Chase?
