Date: 2016-10-17 08:37 am (UTC)I also just read a comment an audience member posted on Facebook praising Robert. They said: "He created a fully developed and very touching character, and he performed all of his songs beautifully with that very careful use of speech/song that only gifted non-singers (Rex Harrison, Richard Burton) can achieve"
It's funny that these two people praise the use of the 'talking/singing' style, whereas others have criticised it. Sometimes I think critics are too busy looking for things to pick apart rather than appreciating what the actor/production is trying to do.
I remember one (lone) critic picking apart TKAM, not liking the method of staging (very stripped back set/use of ensemble) and I just wanted to bang my head against the desk. They clearly missed the point of the production. (I personally adored the staging of it. I wanted to be a theatre director when growing up and that play was soooooo up my street in style, I was practically in love!!!!!!)

Crucially, the three lead roles have been exceedingly well-cast. Robert Sean Leonard turns out to be a magnificent King Arthur, possessing all the grandeur required for the role.
