I think we have all heard this story before, but David Shore discusses Robert Sean Leonard's audition for House in this interview. It's quite interesting what he says about Wilson having to be a complicated character for House to be interested in him!

Thanks! I'll just copy what I wrote on H/W:

I vaguely remember hearing that the network execs wanted Wilson to be "nicer" -- Glad Bryan Singer, RSL and DS knew better.

I agree with DS that too many male friendships on TV lack complexity and mainly focus on helping each other get laid. But then I have to wonder why Wilson was eventually reduced to relationship cheerleader/adviser and comic relief/prankster.
